Accidents That Can Be Prevented

They Find the Body of a 16-Month-Old Girl Drowned in the Magdalena River

One afternoon on August 25th, 2020, an unfortunate event occurred in the municipality of Natagaima (Tolima), when a 16-month-old baby fell into the mighty waters of the Magdalena River in the area of Puerto de las Damas de Neiva (Huila).

It all happened when Milady Andrea Oyola, the girl's mother, neglected her daughter while she played on the river bank accompanied by other children. When the mother looked at her daughter, she noticed that she was no longer at the site and decided to notify the relief agencies since she did not know where her daughter was. The relatives of María Yurany Cifuentes Oyola came to think that they had kidnapped her, but what actually happened?

After four days full of anguish and despair, they discarded the hypothesis that she had been kidnapped and unfortunately found the body of the girl without life in the indigenous village of Velú, municipality of Natagaima (Tolima), when she became entangled on one of the banks of the river important water tributary.

Apparently the girl was dragged by the river current after the carelessness of her mother while the girl played with other children on the shore. Criminalistics personnel of the Sijín were in charge of carrying out the inspection and removal of the body. She will be transferred to her hometown, where her relatives will give her a Christian burial, complying with strict biosecurity protocols.

Personal Opinion

The truth is I think that no one was to blame for this unfortunate event since we all make mistakes but I think that from the beginning the girl's mother should never have left her alone on a river bank; since many accidents have been seen in this river and also because the girl was too young to be able to save herself.
