True Leaders
The world is made of situations, every day, minute, hour, something that
puts you in great restrain or a certain degree of tension might occur to you.
You have three options, run, explode, or face the problem once and for all.
Most people without emotional intelligence would run, burst into tears or just
rage.
Emotional intelligence is the ability a certain person must understand
and manage his or her emotions, and those of the people around them. People
with a high degree of emotional intelligence know what they're feeling, what
their emotions mean, and how these sentiments can affect other people, they are
empathetic and recognize the verbal and nonverbal language of those that
surround them.
As human beings we want to thrive and have as many accomplishments as we
can, we want to change the world and lead to evolution, to cause an impact in
other people’s lives. What I am describing right now is the illustration of the
perfect leader, if you picture this specific someone you might notice that his
or her temper is never out of control no matter the problems he or she is
facing, you might also acknowledge that they have complete trust over their
team, can communicate and inform decisions. Emotional intelligence is a
principal quality for a true leader, but certainly what was just described is
not easy to attain.
Leadership is an awfully hard and demanding task, but lucky there are 5
main characteristics that can get you started on managing your emotions,
building your character, and becoming a kind of “superhero”.
The first tip is self-awareness, imagine you being the head
neurosurgeon, you are operating on a little 3 year old and you have a whole
staff under your orders in this case emotional intelligence appears when you
are able to have a clear picture of your strengths and weaknesses, behaving
with humility, if you get too cocky you might end up killing a beautiful baby
girl, so keep in mind your decisions have consequences.
Second self-regulation, leaders who regulate themselves effectively
rarely verbally attack others, take rushed decisions, or compromise their moral
values. This specific practice improves a leader's flexibility and commitment
to personal accountability. This leads me to our third characteristic empathy,
leaders must be able to put themselves in other people’s shoes and help develop
the best abilities of their team, challenge them, give constructive feedback
and listen to their needs and opinions.
Fourth tip, motivation, you need to find a purpose that drives you, a
reason that will make you give your best and when found you will work
consistently toward this goals, keeping highly standards for the quality of
your work. Last but not least, great social skills, a true leader knows how to
communicate and respond to abrupt rising situations, resolving conflict calmly
and diplomatically.
You might be thinking getting to this level of control is impossible,
but actually it isn’t emotional intelligence won’t only help you for being the
leader of the future, but also in your personal relationships, and will aid you
to discover the best version of yourself.
“Anybody can become angry, that is easy but to be angry with the right
person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose
and in the right way that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy”
-Aristotle
