Coronavirus: The New International Threat

The New Nightmare

On Jan. 30th, the United States reports the first case of human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus and now the WHO Emergency Committee was discussing whether or not to declare international alert for the coronavirus outbreak that started in China, but they finally got to approve it.

The infected U.S. patient is the husband of a woman who returned from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the virus. She was hospitalized and seen by Dr. Jennifer Layden, an epidemiologist at the Illinois Department of Public Health, but she appears to be doing well.

Her husband, who had not traveled to China, recently began showing symptoms and was immediately isolated in the hospital. Lab tests have now confirmed that he was infected with the coronavirus, Dr. Layden said.

Health officials are tracking the places visited by both patients and identifying all close contacts to monitor them. The public is at low risk, officials said.

After 7,711 confirmed cases, 170 death in China due to this new virus and the first human-to-human infection, the World Health Organization (WHO) will decide today whether to declare the epidemic an international public health emergency.

Our recommendation is to avoid or take protective measures for contact with animals and all food of animal origin is conveniently cooked, and if you feel any sympton, similar to the coronavirus, call your doctor.
