My Hopes.

What are your hopes for the future of our society?

Good morning.
My name is Laura Cadena. I am a current student at American School and I hope my view of the future could be shared by many.
Before, I would have said our society had been already doomed, that there was no way we could go back, and for every mistake we made, we would have to suffer and repent for the rest of our lives. But now, I realize this sort of mentality is the same thing leading us to a certain end, instead of just complaining about the errors we have made, we should innovate ourselves in order to right our wrongs.
First, one might think why the change should happen, and in our case, it’s pretty obvious, the human species will go extinct if we continue as we are right now. The way of living we have at the moment is simply not sustainable, neither for us nor for the future generations.
My hope for the future of our current society, is a change in the way of thinking and behaving of most of the people, because the selfishness and greed of some, just don’t know any limits, but it is even more upsetting that most people do not care about making the same limit respected, because they don’t have the “power” to do much change. With that kind of frame of mind, can development really happen?

My hope is that in the future, we might know of the happiness that comes from walking down the street and appreciating life, to live peacefully with ourselves and our surroundings, where everyone is equal, and we all have access to education, health, a dignified way of life and one of the greatest hopes I can have of the future, is that our basic human rights are respected by those who are supposed to defend them, that our leaders and government think first about the people they represent, instead of betraying their trust at the first opportunity they get. That those who have committed crimes receive the punishment they deserve, imprisoning the real criminals and releasing the innocents blamed by them, that when we walk at night we do not have to be terrified of someone coming to harm, rob or kill you.

One might say that my views are at best utopian, that they are most likely than not impossible to achieve, but without hopes that try and modify our present to an actually sustainable future, when the youth doesn’t have a dream to fulfill, a goal to achieve or an objective to reach, then one could say that the extinction of humanity has arrived.
“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future”. (Robert H. Schuller).

Thanks.
