ABOUT THE STORY

This story took place in the year 2437 on earth. In this story, humans and martians (capital letter) have a helpful dynamic. Martians helped humans reorganize themselves and gave them advanced tools and knowledge, and humans in return use their creativity to come up with new ideas for the martians (capitalization).  Nevertheless, through the story it also develops in another planet called Spor where the main characters, Jim and Jerry, went on a journey to bring back to earth the people that were living on Spor.

SUMMARY

In a world, where humans directly interact with Martians, a superior race that helped the Earth and humans to survive and evolve; two men, Jerry Kos’s and Jim Drake’s, narrate their journey to Spor.

While Kos’s and Drake’s are on Mars, Shadrak (Martian adviser) gives them a mission to travel to Spor. A planet which holds part of the lost population of Atlantis, taken from Earth thousands of years prior and put in Spor. Unfortunately, the Noir (a black gas cloud) was at the verge of swallowing this planet. Reason why Jerry and Jim go to Spor. When they get there, they are received by Tarquin (Governor of Osmand), who calls the governors from other cities to inform them of the danger.

The rest of the governors don’t believe any of the claims made by the voyagers or support any type of election to see if the rest of the population wants to leave. Hours later Garok, leader of a nearby troublemaker colony, starts taking over the city of Osmand and creating chaos to prevent any further action from the voyagers. Jerry and Jim proceed to counter attack and eliminate Garok and its forces. However, when the cloud has already swallowed Spor’s sun, none of the people in Osmand want to leave their cherished planet.

In the end, Jim and Jerry saw the last of Spor and returned to Earth with the last survivor of this planet, a black pup.

CHARACTERS

Jerry Kos: He is a young master navigator of twenty-seven years. Master navigator, he has completed missions in the Cosmic Survey and is also the owner of the solo return from the Moon to Earth achieved in 2437. He is a nature lover (like hiking through it and activities such as fishing), in his free time and is also one of the fifty thousand young officers of the Commonwealth. He has a very egotistical attitude and is very confident in himself.

Jim Drake: He is the skipper of Peilos, a very persuasive and reflexive man.

Shadrak: One of the advisers and the Guardian of the Great Gaterway, he has a very good eye trusting his instinct. He was the one that named the solar system “Maj”

Garok: His manner was arrogant and contemptuous, but he always seemed to be very analytical.

Governor of Osmand: He was a very nice person but quite demanding, in the story it seems that he laughs a lot.

OPINION/ Would I recommend this story?

This is a fascinating and somewhat decisive book because it speaks firmly about phenomena that go beyond one's own life, but that are nevertheless part of it. The book has a very interesting beginning, and it's also easy to understand, anybody would really enjoy this book.

The book would be perfect for people who love natural science and the phenomena of the galaxy, since that is its main theme and its relationship with human interaction. We would not recommend the book to children or people who are not used to reading a lot, since the book can be confusing due to the high level of reading it requires understanding it, especially due to its advanced vocabulary.
