Colombia's Plan for the Acquisition of a Vaccine Against Covid-19
Colombia has a strategy defined for several months for access to the vaccine against covid-19, they assured its citizens the necessary doses of vaccine for covid-19 through bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, with which it is planned to vaccinate the population in 2 phases and 5 stages, prioritizing risk groups and so on progressively reach 35 million vaccinated Colombians.
The objective of the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19 is in its first phase of reducing mortality and the incidence of serious cases from this virus, as well as protecting health workers; while in the second phase it is about reducing the contagion to generate collective immunity.
Colombia has confidentiality agreements with the six vaccine producing companies that are leading the process: Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Sinopharm, CanSino, and the Serum Institute of India.
- Pfizer: 10 million doses purchased for 5 million people.
- AstraZeneca: Colombia bought 10 million doses for 5 million people.
- Janssen: 9 million doses for 9 million people.
- Modern: the National Government has just purchased 10 million doses for 5 million people.
- Sinovac: 2.5 million doses for 1,250,000 people.
The immunization process in the country began on February 20, based on the National
Vaccination Plan structured by the National Government, which establishes two phases and five
stages. The first stage includes the first line of human talent in health and adults over 80 years of
age.
There were several problems with the vaccine because it was found that many of the vaccines that were being applied were empty, and they led people to believe that they were okay to sell elsewhere.
