On Mental Impairment: Essay about A Story Read.

Lying in the Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

After reading the story, I have interpreted that most of the lying comes in the form of him lying to himself through the visions he has. Personally, as the reader, I found it hard to differenciate between what was a vision and what wasn't.

However, from what I understand, the only real truth to the story is that he was going shopping with his wife. I believe that Mitty might have some sort of schizophrenia, a mental impairment that causes the victim to hallucinate among other things. Another thing I'd like to point out is that some of his hallucinations are connected to what he is doing in the real world, an example being that he would pretend he is piloting an aircraft when in reality he is actually driving a car.

This leads me to believe that his daydreams are based on his recent thoughts. Overall, while it is a rather confusing book to read (if you are unaware of the fact that he has daydreams), I feel like I learned something about how the brain can make bland scenarios into detailed dreams.
