My Literary Analysis Of A Sci-Fi Story

 A Sound of Thunder

by: Ray Bradbury

Setting: The setting starts out at Time Safari Inc, taking place in 2055

Characters: Eckels, Mr. Travis, Lesperance, Billings and Kramer.

Plot:

Exposition: Eckels goes to time Safari Inc. because he had paid some money to go back in the past and hunt a dinosaur that would die. But they had a problem that is if they step outside the path, so this can affect the future.

Rising Action: Eckels steps out of the path accidentally.

Climax: As the people were afraid that Eckels would affect the future, they decided to leave Eckels behind.

Falling Action: Eckels was allowed to travel to the future.

Resolution: At as a result, Eckels affected the future, so when they return to the present, Mr. Travis decided to shoot him.

  • Theme: Little things can make the difference

  • Mood: Suspenseful and intense

  • Tone: Dramatic and exaggerated

  • Voice: 3rd person point of view

Conflict:

man vs man: Travis tries to kill Eckels.

man vs nature: The Tyrannosaurus Rex is a product of the prehistoric natural environment. People who travel back in time arrive in the prehistoric and confront the dangerous dinosaur.

man vs self: Eckels loses his nerve and panics, getting lost on the path and rewriting history.

man vs society: When Eckels wanted to take the dinosaur but Mr. Travis and Laperance refused.

New Ending: A different ending that I intend to give to this story is that instead of Mr. Travis kills Eckels, he decides to escape to forget those problems and never be heard from again. So Mr. Travis has no need to shoot him.
