GAMING IN THE PANDEMIC AND WHY IT’S IMPORTANT

Everyone knows things are super scary and confusing out there with the whole pandemic going on and the black lives matter protests, things are very scary right now, so what better time to relax than now, and what better way to relax, than by playing video games, but why exactly IS that? Well that’s exactly what we are going to find out, so sit back, relax and enjoy this article on why videogames are important. But before that, let's go through a brief history.

Video Games have been around for quite some time, dating all the way back to the 1960’s with The Odyssey, they weren’t really that successful back on the day due to the fact the games weren’t  really what they were advertised, it wasn’t until Nintendo came and saved the industry, as time went on not only did the consoles evolve, but so did the games, and in turn so did the potential for stories, additions such as voice acting, cutscenes, and even more detailed graphics, and so, we come to the modern day, we’re all stuck inside while the world outside burns, literally, and what else can we do, than to relax, which brings us to this article’s topic, in this pandemic gaming has become GIGANTIC, with home events and more time to play, but why IS that?

Why do people spend so much time playing video games?, the simple answer would be boredom, but that's not a very good answer, there are lots of other stuff people can do right now, like reading, or watching movies or TV shows, but video games offer something neither of those media can offer and is control over those stories, all of these media allow you to enter a world far different than ours, but games offer something the other 2 don’t, games make YOU the protagonist of those stories, games put you in control of the stories, by either playing as one of the characters, or literally creating a character.

Games put you at the front of the story and let you explore different parts of the game’s world, with them it really feels you are changing the world around you, that you can enjoy the tremendous detail in the worlds, all the other characters in the story, the gameplay, and even all the lore of the game, but that’s mostly for single player games.

What about multiplayer games? They allow you to play with your friends and communicate with them, and since no one can go outside, this is the perfect way to connect with your friends, and heck even connect with new people, since everyone needs a friend right now, and that’s where videogames shine, games can allow you to cope, have fun, and connect with people.

I hope after all of this blows over you can understand the importance of this media (and hopefully others in the following weeks).

I hope you’ve enjoyed this article. Stay safe out there.
