A Case To Save Colombian Manatee

Illegal Fishing and Manatees' Death

You might have read headings in Colombian newspapers, like next ones below:

Dead Manatee Found in Barranquilla, Sept 13th 2012

Many Manatees Found Dead In Great Marsh of Magdalena, March 13th, 2019.
The illegal fishing of manatees is still ongoing in Santander, Ap. 4th, 2020

Colombia is the habitat of the Caribbean manatee, that lives in Magdalena and Orinoco’s rivers.

Nayid Cueto, the  Damab veterinarian in 2012, went to see the corpse of the manatee that was found in Las Flores, whose death causes are still a matter of investigation.

They analyzed the corpse and the animal had a profound injury in his body and it was suspected that a ship caused it or maybe it was a victim of illegal fishing.

This is a really sad event because the manatee is an animal on the verge of extinction due to its illegal fishing, accidents that catch them in nets while catching other fish, or are deadly hit by boats' engines.

We should take care of our biodiversity and the nature, since  at the end of the day, this Earth is our home and sometimes we forget that by having the excuse of the self-centered mindset the humankind has, nobody takes responsibility and that is destroying our environment.
