Legend: "Madre de agua"

Mother of Water

Rivers tell that a young woman with blue eyes and golden hair who accompanied her Spanish father, in the conquest of our lands and the expedition by the Magdalena River, was tormented when her father tortured the chief of an indigenous tribe, to force him to show him the gold he hid in his land.

The conqueror, moved by his daughter's plea, decides to let the Indian go. She, in love with the beauty of the chieftain, fled with him to the banks of the river and they had a son. When the father found out, he drowned his grandson and beheaded the Indian in the presence of his daughter. In the midst of her pain and despair the young woman decided to drown in the waters of the Magdalena River.

Since then, locals have been living underwater and scaring children and fishermen by drowning them.
