NICKNAMED "POPEYE" DIED
One of Pablo Escobar’s most famous hitmen died early this February 6th from terminal esophagus cancer. Jhon Jairo Velasquez, better known as "Popeye", had been in the hospital since December 31st 2019, according to the Colombian National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC).
The man was captured on May 25th, 2018 and ever since he was serving jail time for his crimes of extortion and conspiracy to commit crimes back then. The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office linked him to extortion groups in the city of Medellin. As well, he is attributed dozens of murders (Some media reported up to 300).
He had esophagus cancer in stage 4, and was hospitalized at the National Cancer Institute in Bogota.
