Weird Disease

Alice in Wonderland Syndrome

Have you ever experienced episodes where you lose track of time, where you feel things closer or farther away than what they normally seem, or have you felt like you were smaller or taller than what you really are?

Well, this are some the symptoms of the Alice in wonderland syndrome, you might be thinking we are joking right now, but actually this syndrome was discovered by Dr. John Todd in the 1950s.

The first time we saw this syndrome, the most eye catching thing about it, was its name, it was clearly inspired by the classic Disney movie ¨Alice in wonderland¨, when doctor Todd discovered this syndrome, he instantly related it with this movie, since Alice’s world is what most of this patients experience.

AWS is a rare condition that caused temporary episodes of distorted perception and disorientation, and not only this, it can also cause loss of coordination and limb control during a certain period of time, which usually varies between 5 and half an hour.

People commonly think that this a result of a mental illness,
but research reveals that it’s not clear what causes AWS, and doctors are sure that it doesn’t have any relation with vision, hallucinations or any mental or neurological illness.

In addition, investigators believe unusual electrical activity in the brain causes abnormal blood flow to the parts of the brain that process your environment and experience visual perception. This unusual electrical activity may be the result of several causes such as infections, head traumas and migraines.

While symptoms aren’t harmful or dangerous for your health,
they certainly affect the quality of life of patients, this condition is mostly present during childhood, so if you are experiencing any of these symptoms approach your local doctor and ask for a treatment, so that you can develop everything in the best conditions.

Always know that you're not alone in the battle called life.
