Integral Education

SCHOOLS MUST TEACH SEX EDUCATION TO STUDENTS

Children and teenagers spend most of their lives in school, where they learn math, how to read, science, history, etc, but do they learn all what they need to?

Society has created barriers over this topic, always telling us that sex is bad and we must avoid it. People are closeminded, without realizing that we are not in the past anymore, when kids and even adults could walk freely on the streets without worrying about their security.

Nowadays, 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys is a victim of child sexual abuse. Columbia University made a study comparing students who took sexual education classes before college and those who received abstinence-only education and they concluded that the ones that took sexual education classes were half as likely to be sexually assaulted in college.

Teaching sex abstinence can lead to shame and confusion surrounding sex, which puts youth at higher risk of assault and makes it less likely they will report such abuse, said Andrea Barrica, the founder and chief executive officer of the online sex education platform the O.school. Society claims to prepare us for the future, but are they preparing us for the future or the past?

Children need sexual education, which is a complete taboo for many schools, to the point that they can`t know about it. Given the high rates of unwanted pregnancies, it is clear that
sex education is so poor and sometimes non-existent, we need to change this ridiculous ideology if we want a better future for this society.

On the other hand, sexual education should begin in your house, parents need to be the first to talk with their children about it, so they can make sure that they are getting the right information, because at the end, they will learn about it from any other non-reliable source, like friends, pornography pages, internet in general, etc.

Also, sexual education could incite or promote sex if it is not taught the right way and if it isn't the right age and maybe they could take that knowledge and using it for sexual activity.

This topic has a lot of opinions, but what it is clear is that sex is a natural part of life and that is everywhere nowadays, on the internet, in TV programs, in music and also people talk about it. Children and teenagers need good and correct information from the right sources about sex and that starts in school and home.

Sex education in high schools helps young people to be more prepared for life changes, such as puberty, menopause, and aging preparedness. It helps them in knowing that a sudden few changes are okay and normal. Young people can also learn to appreciate and recognize their sex: bodies just as good, beautiful and special, as other God’s perfect creations.

So, I can conclude that sexual education should be taught in
schools by professionals on this topic and also in home by parents, it is necessary for growing up and to mature.
