Mysteries, part 2.

Vanished in Thin Air.

•••

3 days passed by as slowly as two years. Each morning felt heavy, as if he woke up with weights that didn’t allow him to get out of bed. But he decided one of those unadequately sunny mornings that he wouldn’t feel useless anymore, that he would act upon himself.

His parents had decided to hire a detective to help them look for their daughter, flyers with the words Have you seen me? Imprinted in them, characteristics of the missing girl and information of who to reach out filling the rest of the paper sheet along with a picture of Lizzy, her eyes glowing with the sunlight she adored so much, happiness adorning her tiny features. The sight of his sister in those pictures made Matt feel swivel in his stomach at the mere thought of not being able to see her again, talk to her, answer her constant questions.

The day the teen boy decided to take matters in his own hands he had woken up tired of the constant fullness of the days, watching the tired features in his adoptive parents’ faces, eyes filled with pain. Or so he thought.

The blue-eyed boy decided to skip school that day, but he didn’t tell anything to his parents.
He went alone, not being a person with a lot of friends and along with his short number of colleagues the list of people he trusted just had his name written on it.

The park, he was making his way to the park. The last place his
sister was seen in. This park in particular however, had a forest by its side, so he decided to look into the large amount of trees that seemed to crouch in to take him into their branches.
Everything became dark when he walked the first 5 meters into the forest, thick leaves blocking the intense summer sunshine. He walked by what seemed hours in that immense labyrinth of nature, but when he was just about to give up he found a peculiar small cabin in the woods.

It was wooden, it seemed hand made, it seemed weird to him so he decided to enter and investigate further.
When he entered, he saw a small Wooden table as the only piece of furniture in the small place. Something caught his eye so he went closer, easily identifying the item.
It was an earring, a golden earring that seemed quite familiar for him, he knew he had seen it before but had no idea where…
But suddenly, it popped up in his head. “Ms. Jones…” he muttered to himself. His reaction was to run back to the house to look for more evidence and confirm his theory, however, in his attempt to get out he hit the table slightly moving it. He didn’t take it into account and proceeded to get out of there.

Turns out, when Mr and Ms. Jones left with Lizzy to the park the female Jones was actually wearing some gold and emerald earrings that weren’t there when they returned. “Could it have been her?” The tall individual asked to himself.he tried to deny this information but no excuse fitted.
Could really have been Ms. Jones the one who took Lizzy and tried to hide it?

"Finally, home sweet home” The teenager thought. “Hi Matthew, how was your day at school?” Asked Ms. Jones along with her husband. But Matthew couldn’t bring himself to look at her face, “Fine” he said quickly to then run upstairs. He started doing his homework hoping it would take his mind away from the situation.

He was fast asleep, tired from his previous investigation that day.  Nevertheless, some hours after he had fallen asleep something woke him up. He heard a door open aggressively. He jumped because of the sudden sound that scared him, but he tried to ignore it.
It became impossible though, when a lullaby he knew as well as the palm of his hand made itself clear. “Twinkle, twinkle little star…” it was a silent whisper, as if someone was muttering it from a distance.  Matthew was wrong, soon he realized because of the sound of his door creaking open, “Who’s there?!” He screamed, hoping to get help.
“Shhhhh” was the last thing he heard as a tissue was put over his nose and mouth with some kind of weird substance, making the boy almost immediately pass out.

“Where am I?” He muttered quietly to himself, all of a sudden everything came back to his head, he just joined the dots. Someone had kidnapped him. “Where am I!?” He screamed at the top of his lungs, hoping someone came to his rescue, he tried to move but chains stopped him.
“Oh don’t bother honey, haha” said a female voice in a mocking tone. “Nobody will hear you down here, just ask Lizzy” He looked everywhere at the mention of that name, her sister’s name. But he couldn’t find her…
“Oh, she’s not here pretty boy” he recognized the voice, it was Ms. Jones! He was right all of this time but he didn’t act any further upon it. How stupid of him.
“Did you catch him?” A low voice tumbled through the dark room at the same time the lights turned on, bright white light blinding Matthew.
“I sure did honey” said the female kidnapper with a sweet tone in her voice. Oh God, he couldn’t believe it. “Mr. Jones…” he said in despite, he really had been living with these people for a whole year, without suspecting anything.
“The only and real one” he said, sounding proud of himself. “You must be wondering what’s going on in here kid” he followed.
“Well, you must be wondering where Lizzy is, am I right?” Said the female criminal.
“What have you done to her?!” He screamed in anger, trying to free himself in a useless attempt once more. “Oh we didn’t do anything to her” he said playfully.
“What do you mean we?” The boy asked, his patience running thin, but there was nothing he could do about it.
“Let me put it down for you, do you remember the day you were looking through old stuff and saw pictures of us with different children?” The woman asked.
“Yes…” he said, remembering that day 8 months ago.

~it was a chilly day of autumn, he was at home looking through
some of the old picture books Mr and Ms. Jones owned. In one of them however, he found lots of pictures of them with a lot of different children he didn’t know of.
“Who are they?” Mathew asked in curiosity, to which Ms. Jones answered “They are some of our nephews, we haven’t seen them in a lot of time though”. The pictures actually seemed quite recent but Matthew just shrugged it off.~

“Needless to say they weren’t our nephews” he said, with emphasis in the word nephews. “They were all children we had adopted, children like you, children like Lizzy” he continued with an obscure tone. “What happened to them? You may ask” said his spouse. “Well, it may not be easy to digest but we kind of run a black market of people trafficking, that’s why we’ve adopted so many children.”
“You’ll go to hell” The teenager boy said with disgust on his voice. “Oh dear, you won’t be the exception. But you’ll get a different treatment”
“Don’t you da-“ he couldn’t finish his statement, being interrupted by several voices.
“Louisiana police department, hands up! Drop the weapons!” Said a big, dark skinned man dressed in a police suit. “We got an emergency alarm, you are now under arrest, everything you say can be used against you in a courtroom. You have the legal right to a lawyer”.
The Jones looked at the teenager in confusion and alarm, only to receive a smirk in response. They had totally forgot about his phone, he sent an alarm message.

Thank you Regina, I am here to inform the capture of a large human trafficking band, responsible for most of people trafficking rate. They went under the name of Melissa and Robert Jones, their strategy was to adopt children and then, after they got their trust they would sell them to strangers. Nevertheless, one of their victims was smarter than them, sending an emergency alarm to the state’s ´police department, LPD, once in a while we actually get a happy ending. This was John Walker from Louisiana to Fox News, thank you.
