A Sight Into The Future
Billie wanted to be a scientist when
she grew older because she was so fascinated by nature, and advances made by humans
towards our development. For her, this was paramount.
Reading a book all about
science was the best way to pass her time, instead of playing video games or
going out, like other kids would do. Billie´s parents loved to see their kid be so engaged into school's matters, and felt very proud to be called great parents due to her
accomplishments. Their relationship was very close, due to Billie's wish of being all the time in home. They would pass lots of times as a family, and
enjoyed every second of it. Billie had no brothers nor sisters to be with, so
she valued every minute being with her parents.
For her 15th
birthday, her parents wanted to get her a computer, nor only for the date but also as a reward for doing so well at school. They wanted to get her the best
one at the market, so she could use most of it. This was a desire she had for the
longest time, because she really needed one, not only for entertainment, but
also for school.
Finally on Monday
June 14th, the day came. Billie was opening her gifts and when her dad brought to her
this big box with the computer in it she was beyond excitement. It was the best
birthday ever. Soon she started to carry the computer everywhere, and got
herself inside the world of YouTube.
She found so dumb to see people recording
their lives because she preferred and liked to see documentaries on science
and science fiction. Billie was able of coming across a channel which posted a series of multiple documentaries about how life could be in several
years. There were at least a 100 episodes all talking about different topics.
Billie saw the first 15 minutes of one and ended up fascinated, but she knew
that she had to wait until the weekend, so she could do a marathon of the
episodes on her free time.
So, she waited all
week to see her episodes, and as soon as she got to her house on Friday, she
started. Saturday night she had already seen 25 episodes, which means she did
not stop, throughout two days.
On Saturday she fell sleep around 10 p.m. and had the
craziest dream where she was in 2036 when the world was much different. The dream began with her waking up to
start her day. She had to go working, but everything was so odd. She remembers,
how different the buildings were, how everything seemed so clean, but so small.
She
quickly got ready and head out. When she was about to leave she opened the door
and saw a big wall with a button, and a mask which provided her with clean
oxygen. She felt very confused and proceeded to press the button and put on the
mask.
The big wall moved aside, and she passed through it. She found herself
inside these glass walls that took her on a path. By looking at the sides she
could see other people going in the same direction by the same path. She tried
calling, but they couldn’t hear her.
Finally they got to “work”. They were at
this terrain full of
residues, and had to wear all this attire to complete
their tasks. Their work was to take the residues laying on the floor, and get
them into a machine that would destroy them. A twist was added, when Billie was
told she had to do this all day, and would only eat off a capsule she got after
she completed her tasks. Not only this, but also while picking up all the
trash, Billie started noticing, that one of her companions was feeling bad,
and suddenly fainted. A couple of big men picked him up and took him off the glass
doors, so normally.
Billie was terrified because she found so creepy how they
did it so easily and were steady. She got to ask a guy who was beside the
other who fainted and asked him what had happened, so he told her he had a
little hole in this mask because she had ripped, and he inhaled oxygen from
the Earth.
