How Can We Make From Colombia A More Peaceful Country?
In Colombia, during many decades peace and war have
been in many discussions and debates, but never getting into a formal and concise solution or conclusion.

Colombia has many challenges that will define its future. The country has an uneven reality. There are places that enjoy minimal living conditions and others where the quality of education, health or even the stable presence of justice and security are the desired aspiration.
Our cities have places where the rule of law is felt and others where there are invisible borders dominated by dangerous criminal gangs. I think that we should start dealing with the basic and the little things that are destroying the country, little by little, and later beging to solve the big things. I think it all starts with equity and social justice.
Building equity is related to an education system that can level the level of social mobility, now affected by poor nutrition, especially with this poor preschool education, good infrastructure and free university access for everyone in the lowest income sectors.
The same happens with the health services where prevention, home care, surgical quality and timely access to medicines are illusions for those in vulnerable conditions.
On the other hand, allowing access to electricity, clean water, culture, and sport is also part of making from Colombia a better and more peaceful country.
I think that the rest is in us, the people that are living those things and knowing what is wrong and what we need to improve it.
"Building peace involves transforming profound mental
structures, the most persistent ones, which pass from generation to generation and are sustained by the economic, legal, political and religious orders, which normalize and naturalize contempt. We need a moral pact of clear and deep solidarity among Colombians, between communities, classes, and genders. We need to leave behind the legacy of fear of equality". -Margarita Garrido.
