The Blind Little Kitten.

The Blind Little Kitten.

The kitten moved very slowly
She was a motherless lost kitten.
Again and again, she fumbled blindly,
Like everything was hidden.
She searched everywhere
And cried from dawn to dusk
But her mother was nowhere!
She dug into the Earth's crust,
And tried to climb the olive tree,
She scaled the neighbor's wall
And wondered where could mom be.
So she began the desperate call;
"Mother, mother, where art thou?
Are you somewhere looking for me,
Are you trying but don't know how?
Mother, I search but I can't see,
From me the world is hidden!
Why don't I see anything at all?
Mama, mama help for I haven't eaten!"

Fostering Critical Thinking
  1. What do you think blindness symbolizes in this poem?
  2. The cat showed us a characteristic that most of us don't reflect on. Which is that?
  3. Why do you think most blind people in real life see a bigger picture of what life is than the rest of us?
  4. What do you think will be the teaching lesson according to the poem?
  5. What situation in real life could be similar to the situation in the poem?
