I remember (Climate Change)

I remember (Climate Change)

by Camila Orozco.

I remember when I was young, and the world was totally different, the air was cleaner and we didn’t have all this technology stuff that I still can’t understand, but now everything is changing, and will continue to change, glaciers will continue to melt, the sea level will continue to increase, and Earth will continue to get hotter and hotter as time goes by, these warmer conditions will probably lead to more evaporation and precipitation overall, but individual regions will vary, some becoming wetter and others drier, Earth will be unpredictable and this changes will have consequences in absolutely every single living organism on Earth.
And it all is and will continue to be our fault, because we didn’t pay attention, we aren’t paying attention, and if everything goes on the way it´s going on, it will mean that we might not pay attention, but this is something that we need to prevent at all cost, because this is a two sided relationship, Earth needs us and we need from Earth.
And how could it not be our fault?, if since the industrial revolution, the production of carbon dioxide (CO2) has increased considerably because of many human  activities; for example; the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil, industry, deforestation, etc. Making each time worst the greenhouse gases effects, which is one of the main causes of climate change.

I remember just a few years ago when I started to hear about the problems Earth was having and the changes it was going through, but I thought it was all a lie, an exaggeration of all these crazy and melodramatic environmentalists, who didn’t have anything better to do but to bother the rest of the world with their theories about the end of the world or something as ridiculous as that.

But now I believe, and everyone should, because now we are not talking about something that might happen in the future, but of something that already started, a terrifying but unstoppable truth. Because now, I literally feel that every day is hotter, now I can’t get away one minute from the fan or leave the room with air conditioner without starting to sweat as crazy.
Now I wake up hearing about all the constant natural disasters, like floodings as a result of
torrential rains in deforested regions or the rising water levels on the oceans, like cyclones
and hurricanes, because of the warmer ocean currents, droughts, storms or fires due to
persistent drought, forest fires increase because the surface is drier and more arid.
Unfortunately, we will continue to hear this type of news every time we wake up, we will feel
the heat as soon as we leave our cold rooms, Earth will continue to change, unless we start
actually caring for it, and we start changing our habits, so that Earth can return to the way it
used to be.
A lot of people are making plans for the future, like having kids, and these kids will also have
dreams, but how are we going to make our dreams come true?, or how are our children
going to make their dreams come true without a place to live in?, I am already doing what
is in my power to make this world a better place, aren’t you?
