The World Health Organization and its prioritization of Climate Change and Health systems

In the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, there is a renewed

understanding, from political leaders to the people they serve, of the centrality of health and

well-being to social and economic development. Although the health and other related

Sustainable Development Goals are badly off track, new national and international capacities

and commitments can be harnessed to revitalize action on the Goals original ambition and to

equip health systems to meet the expectations of their populations and the emerging

challenges of the post-Sustainable Development Goals world. The four-year period from 2025

to 2028 constitutes a unique opportunity to advance health equity and get the health-related

Sustainable Development Goals back on track, while "future-proofing" health systems.

Realizing this ambition will require a common, global health agenda and joint work across a

broad group of stakeholders in support of government action.

Climate change has not been a distant threat for many years and everyday we are confronted with the consequences of the irresponsible choices made by our generation and those before us regarding the well-being of the planet, several “solutions” given by the United Nations World Health Organization have not been addressed by the people. It is required a more ambitious focus on how this issue is affecting global health. The urgency of the situation has led the World Health Organization to develop  a General Programme of Work (GPW 14), it is a medium-term strategy agreed by the member states (MS) to set an agenda highlighting, planning, monitoring and evaluation of this health programme. “ Building on the strengths of the Thirteenth General Programme of Work, and recommendations from the Evaluation of GPW 13, the overarching vision for GPW 14 is to promote, provide and protect the health and well-being of all people, everywhere.” Is what the World Health Organization states to the public.

The United Nations and World Health Organization, among other global institutions, have provided guidelines and strategies aimed at mitigating the harmful effects of climate change, but these measures have often fallen short due to a lack of comprehensive action and political will. The effectiveness of this given general programme of work is at the stake of the member states that need to compromise to ensure the engagement of this goals, what is needed it is a stronger international cooperation for these paramount issues that affect every single living thing, The program ensures that all the relevant targets are met and if necessary the adjustments of strategies. Public awareness is crucial since the most effective way of achieving the designated goals is by teaching everyone about the near future that climate changing will bring. The World Health Organization is prioritizing two key areas, people around the world need to be assured of protection given the circumstances that are presented, strengthening health systems is necessary to fight the growing health threats posed by climate change. The system would also benefit the environment.

In conclusion, these topics should be discussed all throughout the international community, it can not be accomplished without the support of everyone around the world, to strengthen the General Programme of Work 14. We have seen examples of how these programmes made by the United Nations committees are not always effective but it is important to know that as the world faces increasingly complex health threats, the strategic goals set out in GPW 14 are essential for guiding global health efforts towards a healthier and more sustainable future for all.

If you do not change, the world will not change.

¨A very personal statement of the Earth´s state¨

  

To say humans have permanently altered the Earth's natural state and way of functioning forever, would be an understatement. Because we didn't just do that, we also condemned the future generations to precarious oxygen conditions, lack of natural resources, and uninhabitable environments. 

To everyone reading this essay,  let me present to you: The Greenhouse Effect.

´´From shifting weather patterns that threaten food production, to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the impacts of climate change are global in scope and unprecedented in scale¨ 

The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth's surface. When the sun's energy reaches the Earth, some of it is reflected back to space, and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and water vapor. These ones are in charge of  trapping heat in the atmosphere, creating a "greenhouse" effect that keeps the Earth's temperature at a level necessary to sustain life. However, since the 1800´s , human activities are particularly the ones who have been in charge of potentiating this phenomenon. Via burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, we have significantly increased the concentration of these gasses, leading to , even more, global warming and climate change. 

The harsh reality we now face upon climate change is the around 30 billion tonnes of CO2 that are emitted into the atmosphere every year. Which doesn´t seem to be very harmful at first sight,  until we start to analyze with detail, even the simplest ways this affects us all in our daily lives, 

Satellites measure less heat escaping out to space, at the particular wavelengths that CO2 absorbs heat, thus finding "direct experimental evidence for a significant increase in the Earth's greenhouse effect".

This translates to the overheating of the Earth's surface because of all of the heat that cannot escape into space, being held inside the atmosphere, and corrupting the air´s natural cycle which is confirmed by measurements showing increased downward infrared radiation. 

Shown as dangerous CO2 wavelengths, this radiation is particularly notable supporting the link between greenhouse gas increases and global warming. And among the various effects of the warming patterns that are produced by an enhanced phenomenon are problematics like Faster warming at night compared to the day, Cooling in the upper atmosphere (stratosphere), Rising of the tropopause (boundary between the troposphere and stratosphere), Cooling and contraction of the ionosphere, decrease of oxygen in the atmosphere and increase of fossil fuels in the mentioned, leading to more frequent and severe weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, and heatwaves. Melting polar ice caps and glaciers are causing sea levels to rise, threatening coastal communities. And as if it wasn´t enough, ecosystems are being disrupted, with many species facing extinction due to changing habitats and climate conditions, this one including fauna and flora worldwide level speaking. 

Understanding all of this, inspired me to look up the ways to mitigate the impact of the greenhouse effect, because surprisingly enough, we are not too late! and during this exhaustive research, i found out that several strategies can be implemented. 

Collectively speaking, the most critical approach is reducing greenhouse gas emissions; this can be achieved by transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and hydropower. These clean energy sources do not emit CO2 and have the potential to meet global energy demands sustainably. Additionally, improving energy efficiency in industries, buildings, and transportation can significantly lower emissions. 

Starting on a more personal level, the household appliances that qualify for a sustainable energy consumption should be replaced as soon as possible, things as simple as energy saving light bulbs, up to more complex installations like solar panels, all help in transforming our spaces into Eco-friendly environments. 

Another vital solution is enhancing natural carbon sinks, such as forests, which absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Reforestation and afforestation projects can help sequester carbon, while also preserving biodiversity and improving air quality. Protecting existing forests from deforestation is equally important, as trees play a crucial role in regulating the Earth's climate.

Finally, public awareness and education are essential in addressing the greenhouse effect. Individuals can make a difference by adopting sustainable practices, but even a bigger impact, if they use their voices to echo this message, and bring attention to such an important matter. 

In conclusion, the only way to act up and repair our previous mistakes, is to understand the complexity of these ones. The power of individual action is the first step to team working into the big change we want to achieve by the next few years. The responsibility to address this problem, and amend our past  lies with all of us, and the time to act is now. By making conscious choices today, we can work toward a more sustainable future.

 Luchando por la Visibilidad: Organizaciones Feministas en los Medios 

“La nueva fuente de poder no es el dinero en manos de pocos, sino la información en manos de muchos” - John Naisbitt

La experiencia de trabajar con organizaciones feministas fue enriquecedora. Conocer el porqué luchan y los desafíos que encuentran diariamente para alcanzar el reconocimiento, en una sociedad en la que actualmente la palabra “feminismo” resuena cada vez con más fuerza. 

Los medios de comunicación son fundamentales al momento de difundir las necesidades de las mujeres, las cuales son relevantes para todos como sociedad y es importante que al momento de informar, se tengan en cuenta también los desafíos que afrontan las mujeres y los movimientos feministas en busca de una voz en los diversos medios. 

Aunque en el pasado la necesidad de avanzar en temas de género era más latente, se encontró en la investigación que en lo mediático se ha visto un avance en cuanto a la representación, siempre recalcando de parte de las organizaciones y de los periodistas que aún se pueden realizar esfuerzos para que la voz del feminismo sea algo más recurrente en medios de información. De igual forma se resaltan los esfuerzos de los medios para traer a colación temas sobre feminismo y el impacto que tienen sobre las personas, aparte del poder que tienen sobre la percepción de ciertos temas polémicos.

En una era en la que el público habla de feminismo, los medios juegan un papel crucial al amplificar las voces de las mujeres y las minorías, cuestionando las estructuras de poder establecidas y promoviendo un diálogo inclusivo.

1. Topic A - The Darfur Conflict

 Historical background: The Darfur Conflict began in 2003 when rebel groups in the Darfur region of Sudan took up arms against the government, accusing it of oppression non Arab Sudanese. The conflict escalated into a war, resulting in widespread violence, displacement, and human right abuses.

In favor: Many people say that international intervention is necessary to protect civilians and to address this crisis and that it could help mitigate the conflict's impact on vulnerable populations.

Against:This conflict has led to thousands of deaths, displaced more than 2 million people from their homes and the destruction of the infrastructure of the country.

Possible solutions: Negotiate to prevent more death in the country and stop the conflict before it worsen

2. Topic B - Silent Genocide in Congo

 Historical background: The Democratic of Congo has been plagued by conflict and violence for decades, resulting in widespread human rights abuses and a humanitarian crisis. The situation has been caracterized as a silent genocide due to the large number of deaths and suffering that have gone unnoticed by the international community.

In favor: Everyone knows that they are just fighting for their rights and that is the only way to get them 

Against: Millions of innocent people have died because of these conflict

Possible solutions: Increase diplomatic efforts to bring peace and stability to the country

2. Committee 2 - United States Senate

1. Topic A - The Purge 2025

 Historical background: The Purge 2025 is a hypothetical event that has been in movies and even books. It is based on the idea of a government annual event where all crime, including murder, is legal for 12 hours.

In favor: some say that it would serve as a way to release aggression and reduce crime rates,they believe it would serve as a form of population control.

Against: It would lead to chaos, violence and loss of innocent lives. It would only serve to worsen social and economic inequalities and create fear.

Possible solutions: Restrict the purge in some areas and do it where the majority its in favor

2. Topic B - Behind Disney’s Magic, Pedophile Network; Conspiracy or Reality.

 Historical background: There have been many conspiracy theories about Disney and its potential involvement in a pedophile network. There have been rumores, scandals involving Disney employees, and the company’s history.

In favor: There is much evidence regarding the existence of a pedophile network within Disney, citing instances of employees being arrested for child pornography and other illicit activities. The company also has a history of covering up such incidents to protect its image.

Against: Disney always has denied these allegations, stating that they are baseless conspiracy theories with no actual evidence. The company has said that they have strict policies and procedures to ensure the safety of its employees and guests.

Possible solutions: Create campaigns that make families concerned about the child's safety 

3. Committee 3 - World Health International Organization (WHO)

1. Topic A - Bodybuilding: a threat for mental health?

- The use of steroids

- Monetization of body image

Historical background: Bodybuilding it's a long history dating back to ancient Greece and has evolved into a popular sport and fitness activity 

In favor: Some say that it promotes discipline,dedication, and a healthy lifestyle. It can also be a source of confidence for people

Against: It can lead to body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and excessive focus on physical appearance. The use of steroids can have health consequences. 

Possible solutions: Make campaigns that educate about the risk and promote body positivity and diversity in the fit industry through social media. By educating people about the risks of using steroids.

2. Topic B - Fighting Corruption: Strategies for safeguarding the integrity of healthcare

 Historical background: Corruption isn't new to anyone, throughout history we can see it as a strong part of the society. From ancient empires to modern times, corruption has often been present with power, wealth and influence. It's very dangerous to public health as it undermines the quality and accessibility of health care.

In favor: Because of corruption many citizens are being benefited

Against: The increase of cost because of the lack of resources and false accusations

Possible solutions: Health care is a human right so it has to be respected by everyone. The government should take into account that.

4. Committee 4 - Under Crisis Cabinet

1. Topic A - Corruption in the United Nations: Humanitarian Negligence in Africa.

 Historical background: Corruption within the UN has been a long lasting issue with noticeable instances such as the Oil for food program in Iraq where everyone could notice the mismanagement. In Africa, peacekeeping missions have faced criticism for corruption including rumors of sexual exploitation and abuse by the UN personnel.

In favor: Nones

Against: Despite UN assistance there were many accusations of abuses by UN personnel, undermining trust in the organization's operations.

Possible solutions: The UN should take preventing measure to stop these from happening

2. Topic B - United Nations Peacekeepers - Power Abusers

 Historical background: The UN peacekeeping abuse of their power has been happening over the years, these involve violations of human rights ruining the reputation of the UN.

In favor: None

Against: The peacekeepers were sent to protect citizens but they decided to abuse potentially 1000 of innocent victims for food. Citizens looked to the peacekeepers as a protection and support, only to become victimes.

Possible solutions: Have zero tolerance sent to jail everyone that was involved without any excuse 

5. Committee 5 - United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)

1. Topic A - Blue Beam Project; The World on Fire.

Historical background: The Blue Beam is a conspiracy theory from the 1990s, originating from NASA with the help of other organizations. using holographic technology to create a false second coming of Christ.

In favor They are using advances technology and that a great advance for the human kind

Against: There's not enough info about the Blue Beam

Possible solutions: Is just a conspiracy, and it's not confirmed yet

2. Topic B - China’s Persecution Against Mumin; The Christian Coy.

 Historical background: This conflict faced by Christians in China has been going for years now, it has been a problem with religious freedom being restricted by the government policies

In favor: China is fighting for its believes what they see it's the best for the country.

Against: China is violating the right to freedom of religion

Possible solutions: Pressure China to respect every religion 

6. Comité 6 - Comité del Programa y de la Coordinación (CPC)

1. Tema A - La Casa Rothschild; La familia de los 14 ceros.

Contexto Histórico: La familia Rothschild es una de las familias más influyentes en todo el mundo  político y financiero de Europa desde finales del siglo XVIII y hasta la actualidad.  Es una de las familias más reconocidas a nivel mundial, un dato curioso es que esta familia ha sido inspiración para muchas películas y libros.

A favor:  Ellos han ayudado a dar forma al sistema financiero moderno, también son conocidos por su apoyo a causas filantrópicas, desde la salud hasta el bienestar social

En contra: A lo largo de los años han habido varias acusaciones hacia la familia Rothschild debido a una supuesta manipulación financiera y control del mercado

Posibles soluciones: Promover educación financiera donde se enseñe a tomar sabias decisiones financieras.

2. Tema B - Caso Jeffrey Epstein; Desde Stephen Hawking hasta Bill Clinton.

Contexto Histórico: Jeffrey Epstein era un un financiero millonario que fue arrestado en 2019 por tráfico sexual de menores, tenía conexiones con Stephen Hawking y Bill Clinton. Falleció en prisión en agosto del 2019.

A favor:  Esto hizo que hubiesen más investigaciones profundas sobre este tipo de problemáticas.

En contra: Todo mundo que ha escuchado sobre este caso sabe que Epstein tenía conexiones con Stephen y Bill, esa investigación nunca aclaró nada. lo que hace que pareciera que los están protegiendo y esto genera miedo entre la gente

Posibles soluciones: Hacer seminarios donde se hable de esta problemática para concientizar a familias sobre la explotación y la necesidad de proteger a sus hijos para prevenir cualquier abuso.

7. Comité 7 - Senado de la República

1. Tema A - Mario Castaño y Las Marionetas: El caso de Corrupción que marcó el 2022.

Contexto Histórico: Mario Castaño ex senador que fue condenado a 15 años de cárcel tras apropiarse de 43.000 millones de dólares de las personas.

A favor: El gobierno actuó ante la corrupción y no se quedó de brazos cruzados al llevar a juicio a Mario Castaños y asegurar su condena

En contra: Resultaron en pérdida 43.000 millones de dólares, lo que representa un daño en la economía 

Posibles soluciones: Bajar los subsidios ya que esto lo unico que esta haciendo es generar aumento de impuestos y todos paguen impuestos

2. Tema B - “Il Distorto Italiano”; audios controversiales.

Contexto Histórico: Ex ministro militar de Italia tenía ciertos negocios con la ex-vicepresidenta que estaba con Álvaro Uribe, y se rumorea que tenían un negocio de armamento militar donde lo vendían de manera ilegal.

A favor: Se comprobaron vía audios por la cadena de blu radio donde se escuchó la interacción entre la ex vicepresidenta y el ex militar quienes hablaban de negocios

En contra: Blu radio que hace parte de Caracol, un medio amarillista fácilmente podrían alterar información a su favor ya que es bien conocido por manipular la información, por lo tanto no se podría confiar de manera completa en los audios. También se podría manipular los audios a favor del partido izquierdistas.

Posibles soluciones: 

8. Comité 8 - Comité de Estado Mayor para la Contención de Información (CEMCI)

1. Tema A - Consolidación del Poder de las Familias Elite: Preservación y Organización del Nuevo Orden Mundial.

Contexto Histórico: En los últimos siglos, el mundo ha sido testigo de la consolidación del poder de las elites en diversos ámbitos, incluyendo el político, social y económico. Por lo cual estos tiene un papel muy importante.

A favor:  Facilita la toma de decisiones

En contra: Al tener la concentración de poder en pocas familias esto puede llevar a la injusticia y abuso de poder.

Posibles soluciones: Se puede promover la participación de los ciudadanos en la toma de decisiones

2. Tema B - Estrategias para influenciar la percepción pública sobre los OVNIS y el espionaje internacional.

Contexto Histórico: Desde hace poco tiempo el fenómeno de los OVNIS han aumentado el interés de varias personas, lo que ha generado varias especulaciones sobre ellos. Ademan, el tema de espionaje internacional también ha sido muy controversial

A favor:  Puede haber una búsqueda de conocimiento más allá de la Tierra

En contra: El gobierno puede utilizar el interés de los OVNIS a su favor para cubrir actividades ilegales

Posibles soluciones: Prevenir la difusión de información falsa sobre los OVNIS para evitar cualquier malentendido

9. Comité 9 - Asamblea del Atlántico

1. Tema A - Corrupción y Manipulación en el Carnaval de Barranquilla.

Contexto Histórico: El Carnaval de Barranquilla es uno de los eventos culturales más importantes de Colombia, celebrado anualmente en Barranquilla. Sin embargo, en los últimos años ha habido denuncias de corrupción y manipulación en la organización y financiamiento del carnaval.

A favor: Genera ingresos a Barranquilla

En contra: El carnaval es una tradición cultural muy importante para Barranquilla y para colombia en general, y la corrupción y manipulación pueden dañar su reputación y afectar la participación de comparsa y desmotiva a la gente.

Posibles soluciones: Se puede promover la participación ciudadana en parte de la organización del evento para evitar alguna manipulación y asegurar que los Barranquilleros tengan una voz en el evento.

2. Tema B - La cancelación de los Juegos Panamericanos en Barranquilla.

Contexto Histórico: Los Juegos Panamericanos son un evento deportivo de gran importancia que reúne a atletas para competir. La Organización Deportiva Panamericana anunció que Barranquilla perdía la sede de los juegos 2027 por un incumplimiento en los pagos.

A favor:  La cancelación fue un beneficio debido a que esos fondos se podrán utilizar para otros necesidades urgentes en Barranquilla

En contra: Barranquilla tendrá una mala imagen y reputación como país anfitrión por un mal pago

Posibles soluciones: Renegociar los pagos con la Organización Deportiva Panamericana para mantener la sede 

10. Comité 10 - Consejo Económico y Social de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ECOSOC)

1. Tema A - Un nuevo modelo económico: Sostenibilidad y equidad.

Contexto Histórico: En las últimas décadas, se ha observado un creciente interés en la adopción de un nuevo modelo económico que promueva la sostenibilidad y la equidad. Esto se debe a la preocupación por el impacto negativo del modelo actual en el medio ambiente. 

A favor: La implementación de un nuevo modelo económico puede contribuir a la protección del medio ambiente, reduciendo la huella ecológica, la equidad también ayuda a que todas las personas tengan acceso a oportunidades económicas y que se reduzca la desigualdad.

En contra: Esta transición puede aumentar los costos a las personas lo que puede generar desacuerdos por parte de aquellos que se benefician del modelo actual

Posibles soluciones: Se puede proponer la transición hacia energías renovables como la solar.

Tema B - El impacto de los conflictos político sociales en la industria de la moda.

Contexto Histórico: La industria de la moda ha sido impactada por conflictos políticos y sociales en varias partes del mundo, lo que ha afectado la producción, distribución y consumo de prendas de vestir. Estos han llevado a la explotación laboral en la industria, así como a la destrucción del medio ambiente debido a prácticas no sostenibles.

A favor: Esto puede impulsar las empresas de moda, alentando estas empresas a utilizar prácticas más sostenibles

En contra: Esto puede causar interrupciones en la cadena de suministro y aumentar los costos de producción para las empresas.

Posibles soluciones: Proponer la fabricación de prendas sostenibles donde ambas partes estén satisfechas con el producto
