Short Futuristic Story

From very far away you can hear the echo of the city, the same echo that will continue to be heard tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow. But if you get a little closer, you can distinguish the sounds of flying cars and old cars-on-tires, you can count the floors of skyscrapers and even hear the siren of the electro-patrols. Can you distinguish it? Even if you get a little closer, you will be able to see the young scientist Veronique, who works day and night in her laboratory; driven by her insatiable curiosity of the unknown.

Cyberquilla, where she lives, was called before Barranquilla, and later it became one of the most technologically advanced cities. Veronique’s groundbreaking invention, the Isatronix, promised to revolutionize time travel by unlocking the secrets of history and reshaping the future. Veronique worked alone day and night, as her peers didn’t support her.

It was the day…..Veronique activated the machine, she stepped inside the shimmering portal, and she vanished into the depths of time, leaving behind the world she knew. The young doctor journeyed through the annals of history, she witnessed the rise and fall of civilizations, the triumphs of humanity, and the depths of its despair.

But with each leap through time, Veronique felt a sense of unease burdening her soul. Reality began to warp and twist, the fabric of time unraveling before her eyes. Desperate to set things right, she raced against fate in a biased competition, determined to mend the ruptures she had unwittingly caused.

In her final leap, Veronique found herself standing before a world on the brink of destruction. The once vibrant cities lay in ruins, consumed by the flames of war. Despair filled the hearts of humanity, as they faced a chaotic annihilation.

With trembling hands, Veronique activated the Isatronix one last time, hoping to somehow undo the damage she had brought. But as the machine whirred to life, a realization dawned upon her. She had become trapped in an endless loop, condemned to relive the same tragedies for all eternity.

As the echoes of her failures reverberated through the ages, Veronique collapsed to her knees, tears incessantly streaming down her face. In her quest to reshape the future, she had unwittingly doomed it to an endless cycle of suffering.

And so, as the Isatronix faded into oblivion, Veronique’s dream lay shattered at her feet. In the cold embrace of the void, she whispered a final farewell to the world she had sought to save, her heart heavy with regret.

For in the end, the cost of her ambition was paid in the currency of hope.
