An Essay On The Motifs To Celebrate

Why wait for a special date?

Christmas is well known for being that time of the year where all the families and people we love gather together in order to celebrate but, what are we really celebrating?

For starters, most of the people will say that on Christmas we are celebrating that Jesus was born; however, how many people know the real origins of this celebration? The real origins of Christmas was because Roman people that day celebrated the birthday of the son of God (also known as the party of Saturn) which clearly means that it was chosen as a date for Jesus above a pagan party.

On the other hand, there is no proof that Jesus was born in December because the bible says that there were shepherds in the fields and in December in Jerusalem it was really dangerous to herding goats or other animals because of the weather conditions.

To my understanding, people use Christmas as a beautiful moment to spend time with our loved ones, though if you see it from another point of view, it is sad that we need an excuse to be together, play music, eat lots of food the whole night and exchange presents.

Christmas is a nice holiday, it's true; despite that, I'm afraid that we were celebrating something the majority of us didn't even know about. This can also be related to us humans and how we have being ashamed of saying our feelings to others, we can't give a gift without it to be “compromising”, we can’t say words of affection because then it will turn very showy, why do we always have to search for “special occasions” to tell someone how much you love them or how grateful you are with them?

It will actually ruin the surprise of it for being “special” because of course, almost everyone is waiting for their gifts at Christmas time, so what if someone gives you a present on another random day of the year that has nothing to do with a special date? I mean, I think it will have more value and it will be more memorable and special if it is an actual surprise and not something you are already expecting, right?
