“ Is it better to focus on studying space and the unknown out there or fixing the problems on our planet?”

“ Why should we focus on taking care of another planet if we can't take care of the one we already have?” This is the way most people answer this question, but in my own point of view, the question is still tricky because why choose between one another if we can choose to do both?
Well, for starters, I got to recognize that we humans are indeed messing up the environment. We’re getting rid of lots of species and we are even polluting space around the earth with debris that might tear apart future space explorations and unless we at least try to get this under control (which I have no words to believe that) we will be rising our planet's temperature to levels that won't be able to be fixed in the future. I got my point from science and as we can see, science says that we’re making a big mess.
All the natural resources we have now, which took our planet billions of years to develop for us to see them evolving, we are wasting them. You know, when cockroaches advance in intelligence and get two usable thumbs, it will be harder for them to jump up to space and make us company just like on earth, but don't get me wrong, I don't really want them in space.
Gambling, weapons, space tourism, I bet that if humans wouldn´t waste their money on things used just to raise our pride, we could use all that income and redirect it into both, improving our planet's environment and in space exploration. Just to guide you, Elon Musk says that he can start sending colonies to Mars for less than 10 billion dollars. On the other hand, in 2014 the world spent almost 750 billion dollars on cigarettes and NASA's total budget is less than 20 billion. We have many examples like these; however, the real point is, where do we have to go in order to stop wasting time and start focusing on what really matters right now?
What is then paramount? That is a good question, “ what really matters here?” Well, for me, our integrity matters, our planet matters, our responsibility, self consciousness, and sense of belonging matters. Surely I have to admit that we are changing our priorities and all of this is getting out of our hands. Since the beginning we have registered how humans have been curious about discovering new things just as in the stone age we discovered fire. That is the essence of us humans, being curious and is completely fine; though, I still want to walk through mountains, rivers, listen to the sound of the birds in the morning and watch the colors of the sunset, and I am afraid that it might come the real scenario: “You don't know what you have until you lose it”.
As Bezos says, we should move all the heavy industry up to space, so that we could leave our planet as clean and new as possible. He really got his point, since there's no proof that earth is the only best planet to live in the solar system and personally, I would like to keep it like that, regardless if there is another planet to live on or not, who knows?, maybe we could be doing rocket races up in space in some years if we do so.
