My Horror Story
Henry, who was considered by everyone in his neighborhood as the dad of the year, has been recently checked into a mental facility after living a near-death experience when his cabin caught fire, resulting in the sudden death of his wife and daughter, who couldn't escape on time. However, what his acquaintances didn’t expect was to discover that actually, the person responsible for the fire on that terrible night in October, was Henry.
Most of the time, Henry was the loveliest dad and husband anyone could ever ask for; he played with dolls with his little Avery and gave breakfast in bed to his adored Anya. Nonetheless, he had really bad anger issues. Whenever he saw Anya talking with a man other than himself or a family member he used to get in a nasty mindset. He used to shout, complain and in some situations even reach the point of physical abuse.
That day, when he was casually walking around the cabin while Anya and Avery were outside, he came across Anya’s phone, and as the jealous compulsive man he is, he decided to check her messages, finding out about her affair with Avery’s teacher, which drove him to create the fire a few hours later.
Already a month after his arrival at the facility, Henry feels devastated and regretful about what happened, but no matter how many supporting group meetings he attends, nothing helps, since he’s been having some hallucinations returning to that night.
Right now, he’s trying his best not to fall asleep, but he can't help it. Henry begins drifting off into his hallucination, observing through the house’s tall windows an old version of himself with his family having dinner. This version is all-smiles, but our Henry knows it is all fake. He’s just making an effort so that his real intentions won't be crystal clear.
Henry can't stand the idea that his beloved family’s death is at his hands. His whole being feels remorseful; therefore, this time he will make the right decision and do everything in his power to avoid their deaths.
A point to his favor is that his only true enemy is himself, whom he knows more than anyone else. He’s conscious of all his future steps, considering they are all he keeps going back and forth. He hangs around in the backyard for about an hour waiting for Henry.2 to come. When this finally happens, the real Henry hides behind some bushes and observes silently while his old version sets everything up. A second later, Henry can’t resist anymore and jumps out of the bushes, attacking his enemy from the back, who couldn't be more surprised. They start fighting each other for a few minutes, both trying to strangle each other. But the situation takes a sudden turn of events when Henry notices near him the lighter that would later be used to light the wooden house on fire. With all his strength, he separates himself from Henry.2 and takes the lighter without hesitation, pointing it at him, which shocks him, but when he tries to escape, Henry pulls him to the furthest part of the backyard and sets him on fire.
Immediately after this, Henry wakes abruptly in the middle of the night with sweat rolling down his body, realizing that none of the confrontation was real and not knowing if he actually accomplished his objective.
