My Tall-Tale Analysis

Paul Bunyan of the North Woods

climax: When the cold winter begins and the lumberjack’s feet get frostbite Paul scratches his beard, trying to overcome this problem.

resolution: He told the men to grow their beards on the ground, and finally rub it into a ball and make socks for their feet.

New ending: They did make the socks but they didn’t count with something, and it was that cats like to lick fur or accidentally eat hair balls, so a giant cat appeared all of a sudden and ended up accidentally eating everyone in Maine.

Theme: You can make great things happen, but also: Bignes, strength and vitality.

voice: Normal speaking voice and descriptive voice.

mood: Interesting and cheerful.

tone: Optimistic, hopeful and humorous.

man vs man: Paul against the rumors made by the people.

man vs society:  People in Maine spread "news" about a huge boy.

man vs nature: Paul's logging team fought the harsh winter in the boreal forest.

man vs super-power: Paul's incredible strength, height and his long beard.

Tall tale elements: outrageous exaggeration, the story begins with the main character being a kid and accomplished great feats with a skill or wit.
