Reading: A Plot Analysis

Conflict

Inner conflict: Marin wanting to help Geraldo against herself also wanting to leave him there because of the prejudice and stereotypes of society.

Man vs. Man: Geraldo against people at the hospital judging him without even knowing him, and not giving him the best attention  because of the lack of staff in the hospital.

Man vs. Nature: Geraldo against the human nature of dying, death is something humans can’t avoid.

Man vs. Superpower: Geraldo against him not being immortal or super fast or strong to avoid the car accident.

Man vs. Society: Geraldo against everyone's perception of him, the premeditated judgement because of looks, the clear xenophobia inside society, that victimizes and vulnerates immigrants.

Rising action

Geraldo was hit by the car and then taken to the hospital.

Climax

When Geraldo suffers complications and dies.

Falling action

When people at the hospital started asking Marin about him and who he was but she didn't know anything because she had just met him.

Resolution

Geraldo’s body is abandoned there and no one, he knew, his family, friends, or colleagues will know about it, because they have no way of contacting them in the hospital. Geraldo died alone, like many illegal working immigrants that are trying to survive in society do.

New ending

Geraldo doesn’t die and he gets a chance to talk to Marin about his situation. He's an immigrant who really needs help, not only financially but in many other ways, because of matters of violence he left his country. He is now one of the many people who immigrate because they need better living conditions.

Marin listened to his story and they started a campaign to help immigrants that went viral and lots of people became more conscious and started helping and donating to the cause. Helping not only Geraldo but other people in the same situation too.
