Technology
Have you ever wondered what technology is? Google will say that technology is the machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge or the branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or applied sciences, and that’s right but what has science and technology done today? How has our life changed compared to a few years ago? Does it really make life easier for us?
Without technology, we wouldn't be where we are. We could not communicate with our family living thousands of miles away from us. We wouldn't be able to Move from one continent to another, without the trip lasting days. We wouldn't think it was possible that someone with no legs is able to walk again, or that someone without hands could write, but it is all thanks to technology. Through the history of humanity, technology has been a way of making our lives easier, but as any coin, it has another side.
Technology has also been an instrument for chaos, discord, conflict and destruction. Without technology, nations would not be in constant tension because of nuclear and ballistic weapons, 80.000 people wouldn't have died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and we would live in a much simpler world, but that doesn't necessarily make it good. Another issue with technology is that it also affects our world and our resources. We, as a race, have become so greedy that we have lost measure of how relevant or how much we can hurt our planet with our actions.
For almost 70 years, great companies have exploited natural resources as they see fit. The ozone layer is day by day getting worse by the smoke of our cars, our trees are being cut down massively, the water levels are decreasing, among other things. We, as a humanity have been, are and will be responsible for our own doom and our own extinction.
Technology is a double sharpened blade, we can take advantage of it, but we also have to know our limits. If we want to live here longer, we must take care of the world and learn how to use technology to create a better future for our planet and for ourselves, including the fact of caring for the safety of our environment in order to clean it.
