Internal:
Man vs self: Della felt bad with herself because she didn’t have enough money to buy a gift for her husband and the same happened with Jim.
External:
Man vs man: Jim and Della felt forced to buy something beautiful for their wife and husband.
Man vs nature: Things they wanted to buy for the other were too expensive because of the material that was made with.
Man vs society: This story is referring to the fact that if we love somebody we have to give him a good gift to demonstrate that appreciation and society always show us that too.
Climax: Is when they give their gifts to each other.
Resolution:
The resolution is after they revealed to each other that they had sold their most prized possessions.
New ending:
When they changed their gifts, a man knocked on their door and told them they won the lottery and Jim could buy his clock again and Della… Well, she can buy wigs.
Why is the ending surprising? The ending is surprising because we were waiting to know the husband's reaction to the chain and that can’t be possible because he sold the watch.
Setting: This story is set in New York during the Christmas holiday season, early 1900’ century. The tradition observed in this story is 3 magi celebration.
