Academy Awards 2021

 Academy Awards 2021

Do you know what happened this month? The Oscars!

But do you know what are the Oscars?

The Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit in the film industry. They are regarded as the most famous and prestigious awards in the entertainment industry around the world. Given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the awards are international recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements, as assessed by the Academy's voting membership. The various category winners are awarded a copy of a golden statuette as a trophy, officially called the "Academy Award of Merit", although more commonly referred to by its nickname, the "Oscar".

Today I will point out some of the most memorable moments during the Oscars this year.

To begin with saying that due to the pandemic, it wasn't done in the usual theater, it was smaller and only attended the nominees. They took place in LA, California.

Using cameras, they constantly showed the nominees located in other parts of the world, like London and Paris.

One of my favorite moments it when they showed, from South Korea,  the award nominee director, Bong Joon Ho. He presented the Best Director Academy Award and contemplated what it means to be a director. The answers from the nominees touched my heart.

Also, Asia is taking over the world! To begin with, Juh-Jung Youn, the 1st Korean Actress to win an Oscar with the movie "Minari." She totally deserved the Oscar, her acting was outstanding. She is also funny, during her speech she made the audience laugh frequently.

To continue, Chloe Zhao is the second woman in history to win an Oscar in the category of Best Director! She won with her movie, Nomadland, which also won as Best Picture!

Soul, the hear touching Disney Movie, won as Best Animated Picture.

And the winners of Best Actor and Best Actress were Antony Hopkins for his role in "The father" and Frances McDormand for her role in “Nomadland." Well deserved awards. There was a controversy in the Best Actor category since everyone thought that the winner would be  Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020, but in my opinion, Antony Hopkins did an amazing work portraying an elderly with dementia in his movie "The father."

While there were moments of levity, like Glenn Close dancing to “Da Butt,” this year’s Oscars were subdued and focused mainly on the awards themselves. With Covid restrictions, there was limited interaction between presenters, and most awards were only given out by one person.

Anyway, the Oscars were amazing as always.
