THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY BY JAMES TURBER
Conflict:
This story doesn’t have a real conflict. I think that maybe it is that Walter is in conflict with the world around him as he needs to escape from it and enter the world of his fantasies.
Man vs Self:
Walter clearly shows some sort of psychological breakdown as he needs to imagine cool things to escape from the real world and make his life more exciting.
Man vs man:
His wife is seen as a major antagonist in the story, as she is someone that limits and manipulates Walter.
Man vs society:
In this story, if you analyze deeply into it, you can figure that society is somehow guilty for this man's daily emotions, such as the feeling of emptiness, dissatisfaction, and depression, among others.
Voice:
3rd person.
Tone:
Suspenseful
Mood:
Adventurous
Theme:
Fantasy to the extreme.
Climax:
When he imagines he’s a British pilot willing to sacrifice his life for his country.
Resolution:
When he is about to be shot to death by a firing squad or every single situation might have a different ending.
Alternative Resolution:
Walter frees himself from the manipulation of his wife and finds true happiness within himself. After that, he travels to Sincelejo and finds a hobby: Street fighting using the machete putting bets on himself. He earns the title of "Walter Machete Fino" And goes through history as one of the most skilled fighters in Sincelejo.
