The Neighbors
The month of January was ending when one night, a new family came to the house on the corner of my street. After the move we did not see anyone enter or leave the house for weeks, which caught our attention. Yet it was evident from the movements that were observed that the new neighbors were in there.
Everyone in the neighborhood said that this was very strange. I began to imagine them with vampire teeth, since the few times I had seen them had been behind the window and almost always at night. Weird, no?
In my bed, in the light of a flashlight, I imagined what they were like. Were they spirits or something like that? I was so intrigued that I proposed to Berta, my younger sister, to help me investigate.
We look for Grandpa's binoculars and start spying on them with them. So we learned that there was a boy our age in the house.
Berta tried to convince me to go ring the bell but I suggested something different . to dress in black clothes and go to the garden of the house at night to see them more closely.
My desire to know what was going on there was greater than the fear of entering the house.
- Shhh! Listen to that Berta- I said to my sister when I heard some next steps inside.
"Come on!" Said Berta, dragging me inside. We hid behind an armchair in the living room but it was impossible to hide completely when the man entered the living room and saw us. We are petrified. My heart seemed to want to jump out of my chest. Berta was pale, like a ghost.
A boy accompanied the man. Could it be her son? I asked myself -- Sir . this is not what it seems. Is that we ...- suddenly I fell silent when I saw that the boy was quickly approaching me. I put a wet handkerchief on my head.
- Excuse me, my son Jeremías makes some very strange jokes. "I'm sorry I scared you," the lady said with a calm and sweet voice. "Jeremías and her dad are photosensitive. This means that they do not tolerate sunlight. It is a rare disease but it is enough to avoid sunlight to lead an almost normal life.
- I'm sorry. It's that my sister and I thought that I didn't want to finish the sentence. My sister and I were really ashamed to have invaded the new neighbors' house-Although I must admit that I was calmer knowing that they were not vampires. Now he understood why no one went out during the day and at night they went to the window.
My sister and I decided never to act like detectives again, and from that night on we went to our neighbors' house every day. We became close friends with Jeremiah, the boy with the vampire teeth.
