How’d We Come to This?

I'm in pain, we all are

It’s painful to see what seemed so far

The ones trained to protect us

Are now doing the opposite of success

Their job is to take care

But for them to do that is sadly quite rare

You know who I’m talking about

It’s not like the topic is underground

We have known for decades what’s going around

But if we try to speak up, we’ll end up dead on the ground

Like Javier who was just going out

But his wife and his kids couldn’t get him back

Police brutality is nothing rare

The chance of it happening is hard to bare

To see the numbers and say I’m proud of my country

Is as impossible as people who are trying to change it not suffering the fury

The fury of people who can’t accept they're wrong

The same fury that ends up with citizens in a hole

The fury that ends up with children without hope

The fury that ends up taking away our souls

It’s hard to speak up, especially if we’re silenced

But we have to try, even though it is hard

They have to know that for our lives we will fight

This situation is sad, that I can’t deny

But we have to do more than sit and just cry
