Recommendations for 9th Graders

Reading is truly an amazing experience, and by this time of our school life, it is time to broaden our horizons and open ourselves to new types of literature, this is why today we bring you 3 different choices that we firmly believe are just right for 9th grades and will help them continue their journey reading.

I’ll Give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson

This is a beautiful but complicated story, it talks about friendship, family and the challenges of becoming an adult. This is a really touching story told from the perspective of two brothers, living their own lives, their own problems, without realizing how much their actions can hurt the other and how little do they actually know about each other.

It will make you deeply reflect about your actions, the way you affect others, and at the end, you will feel your heart so full of love you will not know what to do with all of it.

“In one split second I saw everything I could be, everything I want to be. And all that I’m not.”

― Jandy Nelson, I'll Give You the Sun

Sherlock Holmes by Sir. Arthur Conan Doyle

These stories are just something else, Sherlock Holmes is definitely one of the greatest and most complex literary characters ever written. To go into Sherlock’s mind is an amazing experience that no one should miss. Besides, it is a really nice approach to classics, due to the fact that different from others, this stories are not dense at all and will entertain you and keep you on the verge from the very beginning to the end.

“Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself; but talent instantly recognizes genius.”

― Arthur Conan Doyle, The Valley of Fear

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

This story is beautiful in every aspect, it is written in a marvelous way, with amazing characters, a great story about friendship, love and discovering your true self and your identity. It leaves behind a lovely message that everyone needs to see. Besides, it has a nice book cover.

“I live in an ecotone. Employment must coexist with goofing off. Responsibility must coexist with irresponsibility.”

― Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
