Detainee's War

Aida Merlano's Case Creates Tension Between Neighboring Countries

Resultado de imagen para maduro y duqueThe presidents of Venezuela and Colombia clashed after the arrest in Venezuela of former Colombian senator Aída Merlano. Nicolas Maduro criticized Ivan Duque for asking Juan Guaidó for her extradition.

On Wednesday, Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, offered Colombian President Iván Duque that the two countries resume "relations at a consular level” after the detention in the city of Maracaibo of former senator Aida Merlano.

Maduro said at an event in a footwear industry in Caracas: "I am willing to reestablish relations at a consular level so that all these issues can be carried through the consuls: Ivan Duque, listen to me"

In addition, the president reported that Merlano will arrive at the Helicoide facility at 7:10 p.m., where she will be placed in a special space in the area of the police station and not in the women’s cells, where she was initially thought to be detained.

Let's see how this consular issue is solved, if with diplomatic maturity or just through tweets or media declarations.
