Informative essay.

Bolivian Crisis

During these days and age, crises are sadly a common thing among countries. A great example can be the Bolivian crisis, once said being a poor country. But, what is actually happening? You may wonder yourself.  Well, I will inform you in chronological order, so it is more understandable and precise.

This is not a new problem. Nevertheless, it is just now being spread out in news channels, social media, etc. It all began when Evo Morales -Bolivian president for consecutively 4 terms-  made a strange move in order to hang on to power. Despite this ploy’s failure, Morales decided that if he couldn’t win the elections legally, he would do it illegally, without caring about his ethics.

Firstly, in this year’s month of October, Morales was competing against a very close to winning person who was a former chairman of Bolivia’s government, so when the votes were being counted, out of the blue, the TV emission was cut for an amount approximate to 24 hours, leaving citizens who were counting along, with the hopes that the candidate they supported was going to be elected, in a confused stance. All Bolivians were confused, what was going on? Why was the emission cut off? It did not make any sense.

After the time passed by, finally, the emission was resumed.
The people in charge of the counting profusely apologized and blamed it on “technical issues”, but Bolivians were smarter than that. Majority of the inhabitants did not believe in a single word, since after this cut Evo Morales was declared winner without the need for a second round, which was a totally odd and almost impossible result, judging for the statistics before the mysterious black out. Nevertheless, Evo Morales was officially declared, once again, president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

But Bolivian citizens did not stay still, they expressed their confusion and disagreement in the form of protests against already mentioned decisions taken by the government. Posters which contained phrases blaming Morales of corruption and total bribe starred the angry group of people who protested for their rights.

Finally, someone decided to take action. However, it is not who you would have expected, because it was the one and only Evo Morales, who quit presidency by his own will. He justified his actions by them being for the greater good, and if it would bring peace to the whole community, he was willing to make the sacrifice.

After all of this happened you would think protests stopped,  but  sadly, things did not turn out like this; despite that, why then? Turns out this recent event, even though it was triggering, was not the only exclusive cause. Bolivians still have not had their rights respected by their country’s government, especially indigenous Bolivians who represent, according to National Statistics Institute (INE) the  48% of its population. Instead, they are being exploited for the manufacturing of oil or gasoline, which is completely and absolutely against human rights.

To close off, let’s all start raising awareness about this
important topic, let’s make the governors with superiority complex - Like Morales - pop out of the bubble they are immersed in and make them respect us as citizens, because it is what we want. No, actually, it is not a want, it is a need.
