Abstract

This speech is going to be about technology, its advantages and disadvantages in our society and our relationships as well. We are also going to talk about the fundamental things in relationships that many people are not aware of, those that could change the interactions with our families, couples, or coworkers, and it can make us see things in a different way.

Does technology affect or improve interpersonal relationships in different fields such as family, friendship and job? Mention advantages and disadvantages.

First, we wanna start talking about technology, what is it? According to the Oxford dictionary is the scientific knowledge used in practical ways in industry, for example in designing new machines. So in work fields it’s really useful, it makes the job easier in a way and it can help building machines and programs that help society. For example the one created by John Kellett that is a river cleaning machine in which trash is taken out of them making a cleaner ecosystem and a better world, in which less animals are affected for our pollution.

Like in this case, technology can help us in many ways because it gives us more opportunities and it also helps us to be really efficient at what we do. With technology, we are always everything: creating, and thinking of the things that we could do, or could use in our daily lives. Due to technology we have phones, and after them it  came social media, which is everything nowadays: we communicate, make friends, and maintain ourselves inform through it. There are some people that claim not to be able of living without social media, internet, or a phone, and some others that wish those things were never created.

Social media for us is a way of communicating , sharing and

defending our beliefs. For example, when the Amazone started burning nobody knew, nobody was informed because the media didn’t care for saying anything or making a report on the lung of the world, so we knew about the fire like 2 weeks after it started.

Even though, we didn’t know about the fire at the exact moment, people heard about it they started posting pictures until the whole world knew, and the created fonds that were for helping to shot down the fire. And like this, many other times people help causes through social media making of the world a better one in which all of us can contribute to something.

So due to technology we're  more communicated, we can reach one another easily through our phones, by a call or a message, but, are we really connected?

We think we’re not, we can be well communicated but we’re less
connected with social media. This is a serious issue, often we tend to think that communication is the most important thing in relationships, but for us it isn’t like that, for us communication it’s really crucial, but not the most critical thing in a relationship. For us the basis, the fundamental thing in a relationship is connection, ‘the way in which two or more people or things are connected, or the state of being connected.’ (Oxford Dictionary) that’s the definition of relationship there and as we can see a relationship is a connection, but if there’s no connection there is no relationship.

We humans need that connection to have the desire of communication with others. Technology, phones, calls, messages, they often give us the illusion of connection, when all they help us do is to communicate, and they decrease our connection, nowadays when we are with our family, we are stuck in our phones, communicating with someone, while losing connection with our family. This has mostly changed, so if we need more connection, and real life communication, then in that way we can have better relationships.

In conclusion, technology affects relationships in good ways, but also in bad ones. It is a weapon that we can decide how to use, if for good or wrong means, a weapon to end relationships or to create awareness in many aspects, to evolve, and help people be more communicated.
