Are Dolphins Smarter Than Elephants?
Both animals are considered by far some of the most developed species due
to their intelligence and enormous amounts of neurons. However, when comparing
them it all depends on what "intelligence" task they're competing in.
The way their brains have evolved is more suited for their
specific class of
environments, and they're both better than the other at certain tasks, that go
according to their lifestyles. In this essay, both sides of the argument will
be considered.
To start with, it is a fact that elephants have superior memory due to
the larger brain structure, which makes sense as it's vital for an elephant to
recall locations of precious resources like food and water.
On one hand, it's
not as vital for dolphins, due to their hugely different environment. instead,
dolphins have strong coordination and group communication, such as avoiding
sharks and other ocean abrupt predators. On the other hand, naturally, an
elephant doesn't need to worry as much about predators given their huge size
and ability to crush anything any way. Smart enough animals wouldn't target
them on their size alone.
In conclusion, we can all agree that both animals are very smart in
their own way, science states that dolphins are for sure superior in terms of
brain structure, self-awareness, and problem-solving abilities. In my opinion,
since it is scientifically proven, I consider dolphins as the smartest animal
on Earth.
