The Avalanche
It was a December
day, there was a lot of snow, everything was white because of it, my family and
I wanted to go to climb a little, you know for having fun. My family and I
always make this kind of trip (or walks) to the mountain, it’s always extremely
cold, that’s why it is glad, since I also like a lot to spend time with my
family.
My family are
my mom, my dad, my brother, and me. We 4
like sports and are really united and very active people. This year my father
wanted to take us to the Nevado del Ruiz, the mountain with snow here in Colombia
where it is one of the highest. When he told us, we immediately went and started
to pack our things, the ones in the backpack were important for the trip and
the ones that were necessary for the mountain, such as the bottle of water, the
pieces of food like, fruit, the sandwiches, and cookies, also a piece of mom’s
special cake that we always eat when we are resting there in the mountain. We
only had to take a few things, the important ones, like the equipment and food stuff.
When we
arrived to the mountain, I saw something different on it, I saw the mountain in
the pictures and it looked bigger than in reality, I honestly didn't pay
attention to that, but it was more important than what I thought. To the feet
of the mountain, it was really warm and some was right there. I immediately
thought about the snow, that maybe was melting because of the global warming,
the hot weather had made the mountain a
lot smaller and dangerous. An avalanche was a risk, but I swallow my thought,
it may just be that, thoughts, but I was really wrong.
We started to
climb the mountain, and while I was going up I thought it may be getting a lot
cooler, but that didn't happen, the temperature was normal, and I didn't know
if that was a really good thing. While we were getting higher I raise my sight
and saw a lot of snow, I was really excited, cold, and snow, with my family…
the best. I started walking faster and speeding because I could see the snow
getting really closer, but when I realized I wasn't going any fast, the ice was
melting, the snow was rolling down the mountain.
“Everyone, go
back!! RUN AWAY!!” I yield, hoping everyone heard me, but while I was running down the
mountain I realized that the earth is in a really bad situation, the ice not
only in that mountain, but also all around the world was melting, the animals
that live in there are in trouble, the ecosystems that need that climate are
going to die, all of that because of global warming, but wait! How can I stop
it? Who is the responsible for the climate change?
Me and my
family got to a save place and passed some time there while the avalanche
stopped, but I was thinking all that time, are we really destroying our planet?
This is truly unbelievable.
THE END.
