January 23rd, 2019, A New Glance of Hope for Venezuela
This year, we are observing something we thought we won't ever witness, but this might change Venezuela’s situation for once and for all. On Wednesday 23rd, Juan Guaidó self-proclaimed as the interim president of Venezuela, receiving support from many citizens and some nations from the international community, among them Ivan Duque, Brazil’s President, Peru’s Vice President, and Canada’s foreign ministry, many other mandataries also expressed their support towards the opposition leader.
During this event, Nicolas Maduro stated that he broke all diplomatic relations with the U.S. and gave 72 hours for all American diplomats to leave the country. In response, the U.S. President, Donald Trump, warned Maduro that "all options are on the table" to respond in case he does not agree to hand over his power to the incumbent of Parliament, Juan Guaidó, a self-proclaimed interim ruler.
Throughout these years, we’ve seen the mismanagement and shallowness of Maduro’s administration; however, there are still certain groups of citizens that refuse to take Juan Guaidó as their president, claiming that Nicolas Maduro is and shall keep being the one and only leader of the Bolivarian republic of Venezuela.
Furthermore, nations such as Cuba, Mexico, Uruguay, Bolivia, Russia, China, Turkey, and Nicaragua showed their support to Maduro’s regime.
Do you think Juan Guaidó is the solution Venezuela is waiting for?
Do you believe that sending US troops to Venezuela could really be the support the opposition is expecting? Or Will everything just be another civil war?
